Confidential Data Stored on ParentLink Servers

ParentLink is not the authoritative source of confidential data, including, but not limited to student, teacher, attendance, and grades information. Changes made to these data only affect the ParentLink system and will have no effect on the actual source of information. Parlant Technology, Inc. strives to preserve the integrity of all data held on its servers, and is reliant on data providers for all such information. Sensitive data (such as passwords) are stored in the ParentLink system using a secure, one-way encryption algorithm. Once entered, this data cannot be retrieved by anyone, including Parlant Technology, Inc. employees. All data stored on the ParentLink system is password protected, and access is limited to the support staff at Parlant Technology, Inc. Data that has become obsolete (by replacement or by termination) is destroyed and becomes unavailable.

Confidential Data Traversing the Internet

ParentLink uses the most current SSL (Secure Socket Layer) technology with 128-bit encryption for sensitive data transferred over the public Internet. SSL provides a mechanism that encrypts all of the data transferred between ParentLink and an Internet web user. Data transferred to ParentLink (such as student lists, etc.) can also be transferred in an encrypted format using FTP with SSL or SCP (secure copy). Data may be transferred internationally, including to destinations in the United States of America and the European Union. This data is maintained under the same security policies and procedures.

Transfer of Data to Third Party

ParentLink does not sell, transfer, or by other means make available any customer data to third-party. Customer data is defined as parent, student, staff, and other data provided to ParentLink by authorized school and school district personnel, and includes, but is not limited to, demographic, grade, assignment, communication, library, transportation, cafeteria, employee, and other information. Parlant Technology, Inc. asserts our compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the U.S.-EU Safe Harbor Framework, as set forth by the U.S. Department of Commerce with respect to data collection, retention, and use. Notwithstanding, ParentLink will clearly notify individuals of any data sharing, and provide them with the opportunity and means to opt-out of such of their personal data being shared.

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

Parlant Technology, Inc. asserts our compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) as set forth by the U.S. Department of Commerce with respect to data collection, retention, and use. Compliance is achieved through strict adherence to our policy of not sharing data with any third party. Parlant Technology, Inc also designs services and software to comply with FERPA standards.

Safe Harbor Compliance

Schools residing in the European Union (EU) must indicate consent for the transfer and storage of personal information outside the EU. ParentLink complies with the Safe Harbor policies of collection, use, and distribution of data from the European Union. Parlant Technology, Inc complies with the U.S.-EU Safe Harbor Framework as set forth by the U.S. Department of Commerce regarding the collection, use, and retention of personal information from European Union member countries. Parlant Technology, Inc. has certified that it adheres to the Safe Harbor Privacy Principles of notice, choice, onward transfer, security, data integrity, access, and enforcement. Network Security

All accesses to the ParentLink system, both from the public Internet and from Parlant Technology, are logged. The ParentLink servers are connected to the Internet behind a pair of dual, redundant, stateful firewall systems. These firewalls are monitored and maintained with the latest security updates. The ParentLink server also has its own integrated firewall to act as a second layer of protection from outside access. The ParentLink server cluster, including the ParentLink database server(s), resides on a private network in an IP address space that is not routable on the public Internet. This private network is independent of Parlant Technology����s internal network and is only accessible via logged, secure-access protocols. ParentLink incorporates several intrusion-detection mechanisms so that if a security breach were to occur, Parlant Technology����s support staff would immediately be notified.

Physical Security

ParentLink is located in ASP data centers located in the United States of America. Our data centers provide power-conditioned, climate-controlled server space. Three-tier physical security restricts physical access only to authorized Parlant Technology, Inc. personnel. Only those who have signed Parlant����s confidentiality agreement (which protects our customers���� data) have access to the equipment and/or the network to which the equipment is connected. Employee and/or video surveillance is provided 24x7. The data center is connected to redundant OC-192 backbone via an OC-48 IP market uplink. The data center is centrally located within 20 miles of the residences of all Parlant Technology support and escalated-support personnel, allowing rapid response to after-hours escalations that require physical access to the equipment

System Redundancy and Monitoring

The ParentLink server cluster (including network connectivity, firewalls, hubs and switches) is configured with redundant, fault-tolerant hardware and software. Telephone connections are divided among multiple, redundant servers to eliminate single points of failure. Manual and automated 24x7 system monitoring immediately alerts the Parlant Technology support staff of any system outages and even potential system problems. Additional hardware, similarly configured, is located in a second data center on the East Coast to preclude any location-based failures. Secure, off-site backups are made daily.

It is our intention to only send e-mails that will be useful to you and that you want to receive. Every time you receive an e-mail you will be provided the choice to opt-out of future e-mails by following the instructions provided in the e-mail, or by contacting the sender. Parlant Technology Inc. does NOT sell or make e-mail addresses available to third parties for use.

Acceptable Use

ParentLink and Parlant Technology, Inc. are not sources of spam or other unwanted messages. Users of the ParentLink service may not use the service to send unsolicited messages. Such use constitutes a violation of these terms of use, and may constitute a termination of services, or other remedy as permitted by law. Information stored on the ParentLink service is maintained as confidential, and is not sold, shared, or otherwise distributed to other parties for profit, non-profit, or other use. Users of the ParentLink service shall not make this information available to any third party.
